[art] Morticia Addams drawings
Date Created: 2022-2023
Tools Used: printer paper, mechanical pencil, and colored pencils
Franchise: The Addams Family
Character: Morticia Addams
Series: Part 2/9 of my The Addams Family portrait series
When I was getting the hang of drawing Morticia, I was reading a lot of Charles Addams’ comics. One of the first things I noticed about how he drew her was in how the character would usually be posed: Morticia’s arms are usually crossed and she’s mostly seen with a mix of a bored and stern facial expression. I wanted to focus on those aspects of the character when I started drawing her.
I also specifically wanted to include her blood-red lips and nails to draw more attention to those areas of the character. Warm colors, especially red, can help give focus to certain parts of a picture. This method can be used for multiple reasons and for me, I simply wanted viewers to be drawn to her face and hands first before taking in the rest of the drawing.

This is the pose I was talking about! I wanted to share this to give you a better idea of what I was describing. From left to right and down: Morticia from Charles Addams’ comics, Carolyn Jones as Morticia from the 60s show, and Angelica Huston as Morticia from the 90s films.
